How to Give Your Life to Jesus Christ
Understand the Christian invitation to trust and follow Jesus, with Scripture, prayer, community, and clearly explained denominational differences.
Start here
Read one Gospel, speak honestly to God in prayer, and contact a trustworthy local church that welcomes questions and can explain its approach to baptism and Christian initiation.
Christians use phrases such as “give your life to Jesus,” “receive Christ,” “become a Christian,” and “follow Jesus.” These expressions point to a response of trust, repentance, grace, and discipleship, but Christian traditions explain the relationship among personal faith, baptism, sacraments, church membership, and assurance in different ways.
A responsible beginning is not a sales pitch or an attempt to manufacture emotion. Read a Gospel and pay attention to what Jesus says and does, why Christians believe his death and resurrection matter, and what he asks of followers. Prayer can be direct and honest: acknowledge what you believe, confess where you have turned from God, ask for mercy and help, and express a willingness to follow Jesus.
Receive Jesus Christ into your life
Many evangelical Christians describe this response as receiving Christ: recognizing your need for forgiveness, trusting that Jesus died for your sins, turning from sin, and welcoming him as Lord and Savior. The words of a prayer do not earn salvation or function as a formula; they are meant to express sincere repentance and faith from the heart.
“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
Prayer from Harvest: How to Know God.
A written prayer does not purchase salvation or guarantee a feeling. Christian faith is not a promise of wealth, perfect health, easy relationships, or immediate relief from every struggle. If you are in danger or facing a mental-health crisis, seek appropriate emergency or professional help as well as spiritual support.
Continue in community
Contact a trustworthy church, ask how it explains the gospel, and discuss baptism, worship, Scripture, prayer, and ongoing discipleship. Compare the clearly identified evangelical, Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican resources below rather than hiding their differences.
